The female Silver Argiope spider can usually be found hanging from the center of her orb
web (only the central region of the web is shown). In this photo, the stabilimentum has
2 well defined lower zig-zag bands and 2 fragmentary upper bands. The 8 legs of
the spider are held in pairs, aligned approximately with the stabilimentum bands. The
bands do not extend out into the active area of the web where the sticky spiral is.
This female is positioned at the center of her orb web (again only the central region
of the web is shown). In this case, the stabilimentum has 2
well defined and one poorly defined lower zig-zag band. The upper bands are poorly
defined and appear to be damaged. The spider has again aligned her legs
with the stabilimentum bands.
The green egg sac is suspended on thin silky threads between the pads of a Prickly
Pear cactus.
